Tiffin University won the opening game 4-3 against Wayne State.

Tiffin University (20-15, 8-4 GLIAC) opened with a 4-3 win over Wayne State but dropped the nightcap 9-3 at Paradiso Fields.

The Dragons opened with a 4-0 lead but had to hold on for the victory. Kimmy Reynolds picked up the win and had to gut through the seventh inning. With a 4-0 lead, Wayne State scratched across three runs and had the tying run at second with 2 outs, but Reynolds got out of it with a pop up to third base.

Reynolds went the distance and allowed 3 earned runs with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks, but she got support throughout the game by 11 TU hits, including three apiece by Jamie Sevenish and Libby Crow

TU got on board in the first inning when Sevenish singled, stole second, and came home on an error by the leftfielder after a Crow single.

In the fourth, Gabrielle Hess walked and moved to second on a grounder to second. Amanda Rock then singled her home to make it 2-0. TU loaded the bases in that inning with just one out but could not get more runs across.

In the fifth, with the bases loaded and two outs, Ally Rock was hit by a pitch for another RBI. TU duplicated its scoring routine from the first inning in the sixth inning, as Sevenish singled, stole second, and came home on  Crow's single.

In the nightcap, Wayne State opened with two runs in the first to chase starter Tiffany Snell, but April Bennett came in in relief and shut down the Warriors in the top of the first, working out of numerous bases loaded jams. TU then responded with two runs in their half of the first, as Sevenish opened with a triple and scored on Brooke Lambert's sacrifice bunt. A Hess fielder's choice then scored Crow to tie the game at 2-2.

Bennett threw well until the fifth inning, when the Warriors blew the game open with 6 runs. Only two of the runs were earned, however, as an error at third base led to most of the runs scoring. TU's only other run came in the sixth inning when Lambert drilled a home  run to left field.

Bennett took the loss, pitching 5 innings and allowing 2 earned runs. Tiffany Snell relieved Bennett, tossing 2 innings in all and allowing 3 earned runs.

Sevenish had 3 hits with a triple, while Hess had 2 hits with a double. Lambert had 2 RBI.
