Softball tabbed 7th in GLIAC poll

Tiffin University's softball team was picked 7th in the annual GLIAC preseason coaches poll.

Grand Valley State (116), Wayne State (115), and Ashland (90) took the top three spots, followed by Saginaw Valley State (88), Ferris State (80), and Hillsdale (71). TU (55 points) edged out Findlay (52) for the seventh spot.

The Tiffin University softball team should have a nice balance of experience and talented youth. Last season the Dragons finished 27-19-1, earning another trip to the GLIAC Tournament. The 2017 squad features 13 returners, all having seen an extended amount of action in 2016.

Kimmy Reynolds has been a workhorse for the Dragons on the mound, hurling 236 innings in the past two seasons. Reynolds has a 20-11 record during her time at Tiffin, amassing 173 strikeouts, 20 complete games, and 6 shutouts.  Michelle Poe is another returner that Coach Jeff Nickerson will depend on to provide a steady bat in the lineup. Poe, a 2nd team All-GLIAC selection in 2016, hit .359 with a team high 12 doubles, four home runs, and 28 runs batted in. During her time at Tiffin, Poe is a career .321 batter with 81 hits, 53 runs batted in, 18 doubles, and 6 home runs.

The Dragons will expect production from the new arrivals.  Brooke Lambert, a freshman from Lancaster, Ohio, will be an impact player for Tiffin on the infield. Lambert was a 2-time 1st team All-OCC selection and a 3-time All-District softball player at Lancaster High School. Another youngster that will be expected to produce will be Sierra Besser-Paul. The Quebec, Canada native has played in three Canadian Championships, winning two. Sierra was the youngest player to be selected to Team Quebec.

The season starts on February 10, with the D2 Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida. The Dragons first GLIAC game is at home on March 25, against Wayne State University.
