Ngandu 3rd at National Championships

James Ngandu's outstanding 2016 cross country season came to a close at St. Leo University in Florida, as he finished 3rd overall at the NCAA Division II National Cross Country Championships. It is the best finish ever by a Tiffin cross country athlete.

Ngandu ran a 29:52.7, trailing only Vincent Kiprop of Missouri Southern (29:07.4) and Alfred Celanga of Shorter (29:36.3). He improved on his Region Championship time by nearly 21 seconds.

The time is also a personal best for Ngandu in cross country, and is the best finish at NCAA Nationals since Todd Casey's 23rd place mark 2004.

The finish ended Ngandu's impressive winning streak at seven straight. He was previously named Midwest Region Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCCA. Ngandu won the Midwest Region Championship, along with winning his second consecutive GLIAC Championship earlier this season. He also was named NCAA National Athlete of the Week.
