Burrows & Curtiss Named Academic All-Americans

CoSIDA Academic All-America Division II Track & Field/Cross Country Teams

CoSIDA has announced the 2019-20 Men's Track & Field Academic All-Americans for Division II, and Tiffin's Cameron Burrows and Nikolas Curtiss have earned the prestigious honor, with Burrows on the Second Team and Curtiss on the Third Team.

The Academic All-America teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.

Tiffin is one of eight Division II schools with multiple student-athletes honored on the men's side, and Burrows and Curtiss are the lone GMAC representatives on the list.

Burrows has made Tiffin history, becoming the first Dragon to be named Academic All-American three times (also in 2018 & 2019). Only two other Dragons have earned multiple honors, with Alexandria Quast (women's lacrosse, 2012 & 2013) and Davis Bowers (men's track & field, 2018 & 2019) receiving two each. Burrows wrapped up the year with a 3.84 GPA in his MBA program, after recording a 3.72 cumulative GPA in Management during undergrad.

Athletically, Burrows qualified for the championships at No. 1 in Division II in the high jump at 2.19 meters. The senior also made the cut to compete in the long jump (No. 7, 7.51 meters) and heptathlon (tied at No. 7, 5,381 points), earning three All-American honors from the USTFCCCA after the championships were canceled. In his career, Burrows has now recorded 10 All-American honors, seven during indoor nationals, including his highest-ever finish last year at third in the high jump.

Curtiss notches his first Academic All-American honor after bringing his cumulative GPA to 3.66 as a Sports Management major.

During 2019-20, the thrower qualified for the third-straight indoor season and fifth time overall in his Tiffin career between the shot put and weight throw. His mark of 19.40 meters led Division II for most of the year prior to the final week of the indoor season, after which he was set to enter the championships with the second-best distance. All five of his NCAA qualifications have now resulted in shot put All-American honors, including a second-place finish at 2018 outdoors.

Of Tiffin's 22 all-time Academic All-Americans, half (11) have come from the track & field programs, with eight of those on the men's side.
