Nik Curtiss Named National Athlete of the Week

NEW ORLEANS - The USTFCCCA has released their weekly national honors, and Tiffin's Nikolas Curtiss has been chosen as the Division II Men's National Athlete of the Week.

The junior from Lancaster, Ohio, won the shot put at the Dragon Grand Prix with a heave of 19.40m (63-7.75). His mark makes him the tenth-best performer in NCAA DII history and ranks him No. 18 among all collegians in the event in 2020.

The toss was also the fourth-best in GMAC history and moves Curtiss into second all-time at Tiffin in the event, trailing just Coy Blair's school record of 19.54m (64-1.25).

He passed teammate Jabari Bennett for the national lead, which gave the Dragons the top two performers in the shot put this season. TU also has four of the top-10 throwers in the event, as Eric Jackson is seventh and Isaiah Allen is 10th.

Curtiss is the fourth athlete from Tiffin to be named National Athlete of the Week during the indoor season, joining James Ngandu in 2018, the aforementioned Blair in 2017, and Lamar Hargrove in 2015.
