James is a native of Niles, Ohio and is majoring in Exercise Science. He is the son of James Vaughn Jr. and Roberta Horvath. His greatest academic accomplishment is being recognized for having the highest GPA on his high school track team his sophomore year.

Qualifying for the OHSAA Track & Field Championships in the 4x100, and finishing 6th in the state.
