Conley Headlines Men's Tennis All-GMAC Selections

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (GMAC) has announced the 2019 Men's Tennis All-Conference teams and Tiffin men's tennis is very well-represented with head coach Phil Conley earning Coach of the Year, three named First Team, and three more named to the Second Team.

The six Dragons that spent most of the year as the six starters in singles play each received all-conference recognition, with Santiago de la Rosa Mora, Nikita Parfenov, and Toby Cutting on the First Team as well as Sorin Navrotchi, Tom Arias, and Hugo Chatras on the Second Team.

The awards were announced at the GMAC Championship ice cream social last night in Owensboro, Ky. in advance of the semifinals starting this morning. The Dragons were also honored with the GMAC Regular-Season Championship trophy, as they enter the postseason as the top overall seed.

In his 10th year at the helm of Tiffin tennis, Conley guided the men's squad to a 13-7 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play this season in TU's first venture into the GMAC. This is the third time in the last three years that Conley has received a conference coach of the year honor, as he was also named the GLIAC Men's Coach of the Year and Women's Coach of the Year in 2017.

De la Rosa earns his second-straight all-conference honor, as the senior also landed a Second Team honor in the GLIAC last year. He anchored the No. 1 slot for the Dragons this season, going 1-1 in conference play in matches that were completed.

Parfenov played at the No. 2 position in conference action, going 5-1 against GMAC opponents. Cutting has been nearly unstoppable from the No. 4 singles spot this season, going 5-0 in conference play and 13-1 overall. The duo of Parfenov and Cutting also combined to finish 5-1 in GMAC doubles action from the No. 1 position.

The Second Team nod for Navrotchi is the third-straight all-conference award for the senior, as he was named Honorable Mention All-GLIAC in each of the past two seasons. He spent the majority of the year and all of conference action at the No. 3 slot, going 4-1 in GMAC play and 11-4 overall. Navrotchi also teamed up with Chatras to go undefeated (6-0) in No. 3 doubles matches, including 4-0 in the conference.

Chatras operated out of the No. 6 slot for much of the year, going 9-2 from that position and winning the only match in conference play that was finished. At the No. 5 position, Arias was dominant, going a perfect 5-0 in the GMAC and 10-2 overall. Arias also paired with Gabriel de Oliveira to go 5-0 from the No. 2 spot in conference doubles action.
