Dragons open season with 5-4 win

Tiffin University opened its 2017-18 season with a narrow 5-4 win on the road at Lawrence Tech.

The Dragons battled back repeatedly in pulling out the win. The lone winner for the Dragons in doubles play was Luis Ludena/Elio Lezama Perez with a 8-4 decision. Tom Arias/Sorin Novratchi fell 8-3 and Hugo Chatras/Justin Kopronica lost a narrow match 8-6 as TU fell behind 2-1 heading to singles play.

The Dragons posted wins from Ludena 6-4, 6-0 and Arias 6-5, 6-1 while Chatras dropped a three setter 6-3, 4-6, 13-11 as the overall score tied 3-3. 

After Kopronica fell in another three set match 6-3, 1-6, 10-5, the Dragons needed to win the final two matches to pull out the win. Naturally, those also went three marathon sets but the Dragons pulled them out. Lezama won 4-6, 6-4, 14-12 to tie the score 4-4, and Novratchi played the day's toughest marathon, winning 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-4), 10-4 for the victory.
