Dragons compete at ITA

Tiffin University's Men's Tennis Team traveled to Indianapolis for the ITA Regional Tournament.  The team fought well with 4 players traveling to the tournament.  Luis Ludena was the only Dragon to play both singles and doubles while Andrew Isaac and Elio Lezama both played singles and Toby Cutting joined Ludena on the doubles court.

The breakout player for TU was Andrew Isaac who advanced farther in the ITA tournament that any men's tennis player has in the past.  Isaac won his first match handily with a thrashing of Sam Kiladejo of USI 6-1, 7-5.  Isaac advanced to the round of 32 where he took on Jonas Stropus of Rockhurst University.  Isaac played incredibly as the match was moved indoors to the Indy Tennis Center where Isaac won 6-3, 6-3.  Isaac finally fell in the round of 16 with an odd match against Magnus Mueller of University of Indy.  Isaac dropped the first set 0-6 before finding his play style in the second set, winning easily 1-6.  Isaac couldn't keep the ball rolling in the tie breaker and lost in the 10 point breaker by a score of 10-3, ending his tournament run.

Doubles didn't go the Dragons way as Ludena and Cutting played fellow GLIAC team Hillsdale first round.  TU fell 3-8 in a match that TU struggled with out of the gate.  Ludena and Cutting couldn't seem to find a groove to get into as the pair were broken early and often to fall to Dugan Delp and Justin Hyman.  The two also lost their consolation match 3-8 to Matthew Alexander and Tare Mariga of Davis and Elkins.

Singles was just as heartbreaking for the Dragons as 1st singles player Luis Ludena drew fellow in conference player Griffin Mertz of Wayne State.  Ludena led 6-1, 5-2 before dropping the set to Mertz by a final score of 1-6, 7-6, 10-6.  Ludena later fell in his consolation match to Kristoffer Lindal 8-3.

2nd singles player Elio Lezama struggled at the ITA where he fell to 4th seeded Arklon Huertas of University of Indy 6-1, 6-0.  Lezama later fell in his consolation match 5-8 to Ben Kasprzak of University of Missouri St Louis.
