Tiffin University's swim teams competed at Ashland Nov. 18-19, with the men falling 117-82 and the women losing 95-71.

"We swam well.  We did a lot of the things that we have been trying to work on over the past few weeks.  While it did not show in the times for every swim, this was a better weekend for us as a whole,"  Coach Noah Moran said of the meet. 

Friday's events were an unusual format.  "When I initially set up the meet with Ashland's former head coach, we were both looking for a way to have some fun with the format while still getting both teams to compete. I felt doing the co-ed relay meet format would be a great way to really engage both our men and women for the entire meet.  We had some good swims and are just missing some bodies."  The Dragons took two of the ten contested events.  The relay of Lucas Merigue, Anastasiia Kvitchenko, Ygor Zanardo, and Olivia Salome won the first event for Tiffin in the Mixed 200 Freestyle relay with a time of 1:34.38.  The same foursome managed to win the final event of the night, the 400 Freestyle relay.  Their winning time was 3:28.72.

In the more traditional thirteen event format held on Saturday the Dragons were able to win nine of the twenty-four events.  Top performers for the Dragons on the men's side were Matt Laporte, Ygor Zanardo, Lucas Merigue, and Petko Toromanov. Laporte was second in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 16:58.88.  Zanardo finished in a season best time of 1:47.85 to win the event.  He finished second in the 100 free in another season best of :49.12 behind his teammate Merigue.  Merigue won that event in his season best of :47.83 for his second individual win of the meet.  His first came in the 50 free (:22.02) where he was just off his season best time.  Petko Toromanov also took two wins in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke.  Both of Toromanov's swims were season best times of 2:00.30 and :58.84 respectively.  Also finishing well for the Dragons were Adam George and James Keen.  George finished second behind Merigue in the 200 free with a time of 1:50.11.  Keen took third in the 100 fly with a :55.07 and second in the 100 back going :55.54.

The standouts for the women's team were Olivia Salome and Anastasiia Kvitchenko.  Salome won both her individual events of the meet.  Her time on the 200 free (1:56.55) was just behind her season best.  Salome did mange to swim a season best time in the 100 free of :53.02.  Kvitchenko also won her individual swims.  In the 200 individual medley, she posted a season best 2:13.36 for the win.  Her 100 butterfly was .01 off her season best at :59.87.  Mari Johnson also swam well in support of her teammates with two third place finishes.  Johnson swam the 50 free in a time of :26.28.  She finished behind her teammate in the 100 butterfly, swimming the event in 1:02.39.

"I am happy with where we are right now.  The team knows how much work we have put in and how much more we still have to do.  They get a little break, and will hopefully take the Thanksgiving holiday to heart.  We have a great meet coming up where they get to show some of their potential the weekend after the holiday.  I really look forward to some great swims and happy swimmers," Coach Noah said of the upcoming meet.
