Dragons fall to Oilers in swimming dual

Tiffin University took on the University of Findlay in a swimming dual, with the men falling 73.5-61.5 while the women fell 88-47.

Lucas Merigue Bernardo posted four wins, picking up victories in the 50 free (22.07) and the 100 free (48.24) while teaming with Ygor Zanardo Bortolato, James Keen, and Jonah Sumfleth to win the 400 free relay in 3:14.06. He also got the win in the 200 free in 1:42.97. "Lucas had a great meet.  Really bodes well for his end of season.  The 1:42.9 was a season best, even from the mid-season meet," said Head Coach Noah Moran.

Petko Toromanov, Keen, and Sumfleth also won two races apiece. Toromanov won the 50 breaststroke (27.17) and the 100 breaststroke (59.89), while Keen got wins in the 50 backstroke (25.26) and the 200 IM (2:02.8). Sumfleth, meanwhile, posted wins in the 100 butterfly (51.50) and the 100 backstroke (51.84). "Petko has been dealing with a few issues so it was good to see him swim those times.  James is so hard on himself that he does not realize how well he is doing right now.  He is all around tired and needs the upcoming rest.  Jonah has been a great addition.  Looking forward to training him with everyone else."

Other top finishers included Bortolato (2nd in 200 free), Seth Tessmer (2nd in 500 free), and the 400 medley relay team (2nd). "This was a solid meet for Ygor and Seth.  Ygor I think was better than the times suggest.  He has been great in practice.  Seth has wrapped his head around training potential lately.  I think the research he has done clearly has paid dividends."

For the women, Anastasiia Kvitchenko and Olivia Salome both won multiple races. Kvitchenko touched first in the 100 fly (59.27) and the 50 fly (27.09) while Salome won the 200 free (1:55.15) and the 500 free (5:16.33). "Our women continue to improve.  I know things aren't perfect, but I am proud of this group.  They will get to the level we want to."

Melinda Ulbrecht won the 50 breaststroke in 30.90, while Mari Johnson also won the 200 IM in 2:17.16. Morgan Dunleavy posted a victory in the 1 meter dive with 256.05 points while taking second in the 3 meter dive.

Other top finishers included Wixie Lehman (2nd in 1000 free) and Johnson (2nd in the 100 fly). "Good improvement across the board.  We are 18 days out of the conference meet and both the Dragon men and women should be getting excited about what they are going to do."
