Dragons season ends with 2-0 loss to Maryville

Tiffin University (14-3-3) saw its season come to an end with a 2-0 loss to Maryville in the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championships.

The game started with the Dragons dictating the tempo, outshooting the Saints 7-3 and allowing no shots on goal defensively. However, the Dragons could not put a goal in the net as the half ended in a scoreless tie.

The momentum shifted early in the second half when Maryville's Tim Smith took a pass from Yayo Mutombo and scored in the 48th minute to put the Saints ahead 1-0.

The Dragons could not generate offense throughout the second half. The Saints outshot TU 5-2 in the half and added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute when Jimmy Doherty scored on a pass from Tim Smith.

With only one shot in the second half, the Dragons got a chance with a foul in the box with 5 minutes remaining. Davide Frezzi was awarded a penalty kick but Maryville's Nick Hemann made a save diving to his right to preserve the two-goal advantage.

Overall Maryville was outshot by TU 9-8 and only had two shots on goal for the entire game. They scored on both of those shots.

Felix Graf took the loss in goal, allowing both goals and making no saves over 90 minutes.
