Dragons stun 4th-ranked Lake Erie in GMAC semifinals

Tiffin University made the third time the charm, as the Dragons finally beat 4th-ranked Lake Erie 2-1 in double overtime in the GMAC Semifinals in their third matchup this season.

The game, played at Roger Glass Stadium in Dayton, Ohio, saw the Dragons (10-4-5) hand the Storm (18-2) just their second loss on the season. Tiffin, which had statistically outplayed Lake Erie in two prior meetings, had not been able to beat the Storm prior to the semifinal matchup.

Tiffin got off to a good start after a scoreless first half when Caleb Gibbons scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute.

Lake Erie answered in the 74th minute when Jonathon Carr scored his own unassisted goal to tie the game. Neither team managed any shots on goal in regulation play over the final 16 minutes.

In the first overtime period, Lake Erie put one shot on target but Dylan Morris made the save in the 99th minute to send the game to a second overtime.

Tiffin's only shot on goal attempted in the overtime periods hit pay dirt, as Leo Hasenstab took a header from Darren Appanah and one-timed it into the right corner of the goal for the dramatic victory.

Overall TU outshot Lake Erie 12-10. They will now take on Cedarville at 2:30 pm on Nov. 16 for the GMAC Tournament title and a trip to the NCAA regionals at stake.

Dylan Morris got the win in goal, making 2 saves. The Dragons defense allowed just 3 shots on goal over 105 minutes of action.
