Dragons Ready For Friday Tilt With Cardinals

The Tiffin University men's soccer team came off a great weekend, defeating Purdue Northwest and Davenport University. Now one of the Dragons' main nemesis in the GLIAC will come to the Paradiso Athletic Complex for a match that potentially has postseason implications.

Series Record: Saginaw Valley State holds a slim 10-9-4 series advantage.

Cardinals: The Saginaw Valley State Cardinals are 13th in the nation currently with their lone loss coming on September 10. SVSU righted the ship last weekend, shutting out Northern Michigan University 3-0.

Scots Clip Cards in Mega Upset: The biggest win in Ohio Valley College history took place on SVSU soil as the Fighting Scots beat the Cardinals 1-0. The Cardinals held a 6-5 shot advantage, and the game-winning goal for Ohio Valley came with five minutes remaining. The loss dropped the Cardinals from #4 to #16 nationally.

Defend The Nest: The Cardinals have the top defense in the GLIAC, leading the conference in save percentage (80%), shutout percentage (40%), and team goals against average (.60). Nationally they're 43rd, 43rd, and 20th in the respective categories. 

Pepper The Nets: Saginaw Valley has a top-notch offense, sitting 2nd in the GLIAC in goals (11), assists (8), goals per game (2.20), and points (30). Thus far this year, the Cardinals have scored three goals in three of their five games.

Defend Your Turf: Over the past decade, the Dragons are 46-24-7 at home. Last season Tiffin finished 7-2-1 at home, with their lone tie coming against the Cardinals 4-4.

Dragons Cage Panthers: The top offense in the GLIAC was derailed by Tiffin's defense last Sunday. The Dragons pitched a shutout against the Panthers 1-0, finishing a perfect weekend. For his performance in the Dragons' first two GLIAC games, Nathan Howell was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Sputtering Offense: The Dragons have scored two goals only twice this season, ranking 155th in scoring offense nationally. The Dragons have had trouble putting shots on goal, averaging only four per game, 172nd in the nation.
