Tiffin's Defense Holds On In 1-0 Win

The Tiffin University men's soccer team showed the new guys who's boss, defeating Purdue Northwest on Friday and then defeated Davenport University 1-0 on Sunday.

The Davenport University Panthers had no problem getting off shots against the Dragons in the 1st half, totaling 10 with three on goal. The Dragons were more efficient on the offensive end, firing three shots in the 1st half, and in the 18th minute they found pay dirt. Darren Appanah took a through ball from Alex Wagener, with Appanah fooling the keeper for Tiffin's first and only goal of the game.

In the 2nd half, the Panthers kept firing shots, and the Dragons kept them off the board. Half of the Panthers' 10 2nd half shots came on goal. Tiffin's goalkeeper, Cary Wilson, made five saves in the 2nd half, and in the final 20 minutes of the game he was put to the test. Davenport fired seven shots at the Dragons over the final 20 minutes with Tiffin stopping all of them. The Dragons' defense fought off six Davenport corner kicks on their way to a 1-0 win. It is the first time this season the Panthers have been shutout, as they had been leading the GLIAC in most offensive categories.

For Tiffin, Darren Appanah scored the lone goal with Alex Wagener collecting the the assist. Tiffin improves to 3-2-1 overall and 2-0 in GLIAC play.
