Dragons Off to 2-0 Start Following 71-66 Win over Lewis

Tiffin University (2-0) sank 24 free throws en route to a 71-66 victory over Lewis to close out the G-MAC/GLVC Crossover in Columbus, Ohio.

The Dragons outrebounded the Flyers 35-29 and despite finishing with a lower field goal percentage, 37.5 percent compared to Lewis' 44.6, Tiffin drew fouls and converted 24 of its 33 free throw attempts.

TU held a slim lead for the majority of the first half with the Flyers taking a brief one-point lead with five and a half minutes left in the half. The Dragons regained the lead and earned the edge, 33-31, at the break.

The two sides traded baskets back-and-forth over the course of the first eight minutes of the second half, with there being 22 lead changes in total for the game. Lewis took the later took the lead and extended it to as many as six points at 51-45.

Trailing 54-48, the Dragons went on a 7-2 run to cut the deficit to just one. With under four minutes remaining and still behind by one, a pair of free throws from Joshua Rivers regained the lead for Tiffin.

The lead continued to switch until tied at 64, TU allowed just one bucket in the final two minutes, going on another 7-2 run to end the game.

Wesley Jordan ended one rebound shy of a double-double, leading the team with 19 points on 50 percent shooting and nine rebounds. He was followed by Morgan Taylor with 15 points, seven rebounds, and a team-high four assists and three steals.

Rivers tallied 11 points and six rebounds followed by Carius Key with 10 points. Brandon Swaby came off the bench to contribute with nine points and six rebounds.

The Dragons now head to Southern Indiana for an exhibition matchup on Tuesday, November 14th, before returning home for their home opener against Kentucky State on Thursday, November 16th at 6 p.m.
