Dragons Defeat Salem 62-57 in Close Contest

The Tiffin University men's basketball team (2-4) defeated Salem 62-57 in a close contest.

Through the first several minutes of play Salem jumped out to an 8-5 lead, but the Dragons countered with a 5-0 run to take a 10-8 lead. The Tigers kept the game within two for the next five minutes of play at 17-15, but TU rallied with an 8-0 run to lead 25-15 with 7:20 left in the half.

Salem rallied toward the end of the half to cut down the deficit to five at 33-28 with 1:08 left in the half. Tiffin went into the break up 36-28.

The Tigers came out of the break strong with a 4-0 run to cut the lead down to 36-32. Tiffin bounced back with a 5-2 run to lead 41-34. Salem rallied over the next five minutes going on a 9-4 run to cut the lead down to 45-43 at the 12:17 mark. Tiffin responded with a 4-0 run to lead 49-43.

The two teams were scoreless for the next four minutes until the Tigers made a three to come within three of Tiffin at 49-46. TU extended their lead to 56-48 with 1:46 left in the game. To save time, the Tigers fouled the Dragons and some clutch free throws made put the game away and Tiffin won 62-57.

Joshua Rivers led the offense with 20 points shooting 9-for-13 from the field, three rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block, and Trent Williams had 17 points shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, four rebounds, and one assist. Wesley Jordan registered nine points shooting 4-for-8 from the field, six rebounds, and one block.
