TIFFIN, Ohio - Jairus Stevens has announced his intention to continue his academic and athletic career with Tiffin men's basketball.

During 2016-17 he attended Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Connecticut and led the team in scoring with 19.8 points per game. He averaged 6.3 rebounds per game and shot 55.0 percent from the field and 35.0 percent from three. He attended Merrillville High School and helped the team to a 22-1 record under head coach T.J. Lux. He earned 1st Team All DAC and 1st Team All-Area NWI Times. His mother is Sarita Stevens and his father Barry Stevens ranked as Iowa State's second leading scorer in program history when he finished his collegiate career. He later was drafted by the Denver Nuggets and reached the NBA as a member of the Golden State Warriors in 1993.

"I chose Tiffin because of the academic opportunity and my relationship with the coaching staff," said Stevens.

"Jairus has developed into a great leader both on and off the floor.  He is only going to get better.  He impacts the game on both ends and knows how to fit into any system.  The fans will fall in love with him," said Junior College Coach Brian Hoberecht.

"I couldn't be more pleased to announce that Jairus has decided to become a Dragon and join our family here at Tiffin University," said Tiffin Head Coach Tom Church. "He is the type of player that I have dreamed of adding since I took the job here at TU because of the impact I believe that he can make.  He's a wonderful young man that cares as much about his academics as he does his production on the floor.  Jairus has the versatility to play multiple positions for us and is going to excel in our fast paced style of play."
