Dragons Look to Avenge Losses to Storm and Panthers

The Tiffin University men's basketball team will look to avenge their losses to the Lake Erie Storm and Ohio Dominican Panthers from earlier this season.

Series Record: The Dragons hold a 13-7 series lead. 

Last Meeting: The Storm beat the Dragons the last time the two teams played, defeating Tiffin 92-80 on January 12.

Opponent: Lake Erie College Storm (4-18, 3-11 GLIAC) 3-6 in the last 10 games.

Scoring Drought: The Storm average the least amount of points per game in the GLIAC at 69.9. Lake Erie ranks in the bottom third of the league in field goals made per game, field goal percentage, 3-pointers made per game, 3-point percentage, and free throw percentage. The only time the Storm have scored 90 or more points came against the Dragons in a 92-80 victory over Tiffin. 

Shoddy Shield: Lake Erie is allowing 80.4 points per game (13th in the GLIAC). The Storm has allowed 80 or more points 16 times this season, going 2-14 in those games. Sean Howard: Averaging 16.1 points per game, Howard leads the team in field goals made per game, field goals attempted per game, and 3-point makes per game.

Gabe Kynard: Averaging 10.1 points per game, Kynard is one of the top free throw shooters for the Storm, hitting 75% of his attempts.

Brogan Scott: Averaging 9.5 points per game, Scott is the leading rebounder for the Storm, grabbing 5.4 rebounds per game.

Series Record: The Dragons hold a 51-30 series lead. 

Last Meeting: The Panthers were able to hold off the Dragons in their last meeting, defeating Tiffin 87-85.

Opponent: Ohio Dominican Panthers (11-9 6-8 GLIAC) 5-5 in their last 10 games.

Turning Over Points: The Panthers have had trouble with ball security this season, averaging 14.6 turnovers per game, 14th in the GLIAC and 208th of 302 NCAA Division II teams. 

Shutting Down The Arc: The Panthers are the top team in the GLIAC when it comes to defending the 3-point line, allowing opponents to hit only 30.4% of their attempts. Not only is that tops in the GLIAC, the percentage ranks 8th at the NCAA level.

Players To Watch:

Ronnie Williams: Averaging 13.1 points per game, Williams is one of the top free throw shooters on the team, connecting 83.3% of the time.

Hasan Varence: Averaging 12.9 points per game, Varence is the main low post threat for the Panthers, hitting 60.5% of his field goals and grabbing 8.1 rebounds per game.

Sam Hickey: Averaging 12.6 points per game, Hickey is energy and efficiency off the bench, connecting on 50.8% of his 3-point attempts.

 

Dragons: (9-12, 5-9 GLIAC) 4-6 in their last 10 games.

Bumpy Road: Tiffin is 3-6 on the road this season and 5-4 at home. Last Saturday, Tiffin picked up a big 81-71 win over the Walsh Cavaliers. On Monday, Tiffin ran into one of the hottest teams in the GLIAC, the Ashland Eagles. The Dragons played well, but the Eagles were unbelievable from the field, hitting 62.7% of their attempts.
