McCurrach leads Equestrian at Hunt Regionals

iffin University's Equestrian Hunt team traveled to Lake Erie College on March 11 to compete at Regional Finals.  

 

Sophomore Carolyn McCurrach rode strong to come away with top honors in the novice over fences division as champion. She will now be headed to Zone Finals on April 8th. Team captain Rachael Dowczek  finished a solid 4th in the region on a hard draw in novice over fences .   Sophomore and Media Representative Paige McCaslin finished 13th in region overall in the same division. 

 

Sophomore Ashley Koszalka finished 4th in region in advanced walk trot canter, and  our only qualifying freshmen, Missy Machechko, finished 5th overall. Sophomore and Point Secretary Morgan Lynch received 3rd  in Beginner and Sophomore and SAAC Representative Taylor Clawson rode to 7th overall in the same division.

 

Coach Jenny Steinmetz said, "I am really proud of this hunt seat team today. We had seven regional qualifiers place well in a highly competitive region. They have worked hard and it came through in the riding today. Carrie rode a beautiful smooth trip start to finish, and I am so happy she will be able to continue on to represent Tiffin at zone finals."

 

McCurrach said, "It was a pretty rough end to the season but I was able to come back from that and win at Regionals advancing me onto zones. I'm just thankful to be doing what I love." 

 

Coach Julie Vogel said, "The athletes that competed on Saturday were dedicated to making the judge take note of their accurate performances and it paid off!! It was a great end to the hunt season. To now work towards  Carrie moving on to the Zone Competition is icing on the cake!"

 

Overall TUEQ was 4th of 17 teams in the Hunt Seat season. Congratulations to the Tiffin Equestian team for a great year. It is a great day to be a Dragon! 

 

The western team is competing again today at Blue Lakes farm for the year end regionals with high hopes of furthering riders on to National Semi finals.
