Dragons complete sweep with big offensive day

Tiffin University (15-30, 7-21 G-MAC) totaled 26 runs in two more wins over Cedarville, as the Dragons won 10-9 and 16-4.

Iin the opener, the Dragons got runs late to secure the win and closed it out with some solid bullpen work.

In the first inning, Logan Swonger singled and Tim Orr walked. Griffin Stevens was hit by a pitch, and Hilario DeLaPaz singled to drive in the first run. Ben Bach then singled for two more runs.

In the second, Dawson Groch and Swonger singled, and two fielder's choice plays got another run in.

Trailing 6-4 in the fourth, Groch and Swonger singled, and Orr followed with a two-run double. After a stolen base, Bach then singled to drive in another run.

TU still trailed 9-7 in the sixth inning but rallied to take the lead. Orr singled and Stevens doubled, and DeLaPaz's sacrifice brought in the run. Bach singled for another RBI, and Tommy Thamann then reached on an error by the catcher. A balk the go-ahead run across for the Dragons.

In the seventh, Cedarville had runners on first and third with one out, but a 1-4-3 double play from Zach Johnson ended the game and gave him the save.

Ben Hubert  got the win with 2.1 innings of relief, allowing 3 earned runs. Logan Fisher started the game and went 4 innings, allowing 6 earned runs while fanning 8.

In the nightcap, the floodgates burst open as TU scored 14 of their runs over the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings.

In the third, Swonger was hit by a pitch and then stole second. Orr singled and Stevens drove both runners in with another single. 

Down 4-2 in the fifth inning, TU mounted a two-out rally. Bach doubled and came home on Groch's double. Andrew Fairbrother then tripled for another RBI and then came home on Thamann's single. Carter Klausing walked, and Swonger blasted a three-run home run to put TU up 8-4.

TU continued the assault in the sixth. Bach walked, Groch doubled, and Thamann drove them both in with a single. Swonger then singled and stole second. Another run scored on a wild pitch.

Finally in the seventh DeLaPaz singled, Bach walked, and Fairbrother launched a three-run home run. Klausing reached on an error at third and moved up on a wild pitch. Swonger was hit by a pitch, and Orr drove them both home with a double.

Gunnar Boehm started and went 4 innings, allowing 3 earned runs. Scotty Adelman got the win with 3 innings of relief, but the entire Dragons' bullpen shined, tossing five scoreless innings. Mat Carden, Bobby Slusher, and Ricky Havrilla joined Adelman in shutting down the Yellow Jackets.

Fairbrother had 3 hits with a triple and home run for 4 RBI, while Swonger also had 3 hits with a home run for 3 RBI. Orr and Bach also had 3 hits while DeLaPaz, Groch, and Thamann also had multiple hits. Overall TU had 19 hits in game two.
