The Tiffin University baseball team needed a shot in the arm on Saturday, and they got it in the form of Michael Boswell. The right-hander tossed a complete game in the nightcap on Saturday, preserving a Saturday Split with Davenport.

Game One

In the opening game, the Dragons faced a tough task as the Panthers trotted out a hard throwing left hander that gave Tiffin fits all game. Tiffin countered with Luke Fraley on the hill, and the senior threw the ball well, but fell behind 1-0 after the opening inning.

In the 4th inning Davenport pushed another run home to hold a 2-0 advantage. Tiffin continued to threaten offensively, but consistently fell victim to the strikeout. In the top of the 6th, the Panthers added two important insurance runs, doing so with a towering home run down the left field line.

In the bottom of the 7th the Dragons loaded the bases with one out. Brayden Callihan drew a bases loaded walk to make it 4-1. Zach Campbell then singled on the infield to force another run home and pull the Dragons within two at 4-2. That would be the final run for the Dragons as they stranded the tying run at second base.

Fraley was the tough luck loser, throwing seven innings while allowing four runs. Kyle Lento, Kyle Vance, and Zach Campbell led the charge offensively, each collecting two hits.

Game Two

Michael Boswell and the Dragons had another tough draw in the second game of the doubleheader. Davenport's starter entered the game 4-0, and began racking up strikeouts early. Boswell went tick-for-tack with the Panthers' right-hander. Michael surrendered a single run in the 3rd, but his offense picked him up a half inning later.

In the bottom of the 3rd Brayden Callihan reached third base with one out. Callihan raced home on a sac bunt by Alec McCurry to tie the score at 1-1.

Two innings later the Dragons blew the game open with clutch hitting. With two outs, the Dragons managed to load the bases. Already having a runner thrown out at the plate in the frame, Jack Dennis delivered the goods for Tiffin. Dennis cleared the bases with a line drive double to left center field to push Tiffin ahead 5-1.

Boswell kept chugging along on the hill, allowing a pair of hits in the final frame, but stranding both runners to hold on for a 5-1 win.

Michael Boswell moves to 2-4 overall, going the distance on the mound while striking out five. Jack Dennis came up with the biggest hit of the day, finishing 1 for 3 with three runs batted in.

Tiffin sits at 12-21 overall and 6-12 in the GLIAC. The series will finish tomorrow with a single game starting at 12:00 p.m.
