Eagles plate a pair in the 7th, drop Dragons 3-1

The Tiffin University baseball team suffered a setback on Tuesday afternoon, falling 3-1 to the Ashland University Eagles.

Runs were tough to come by, with the starters for both sides baffling the opposition. The Dragons scratched a run across in the 3rd inning on two hits. Devon Fisk singled up the middle, hustled all the way to second when the ball came to an abrupt stop in the saturated outfield. Fisk rolled into third base after a wild pitch, and jogged home on Garrett Vernau's single to left field.

Tiffin starter, Mike Cooperider, cruised through the front five innings, but hit a speed bump in the 6th as the Eagles tied the game on two hits and a Dragon error. The following frame was the deciding inning in the contest, as the Eagles pushed two to the plate on three hits to lead 3-1. Tiffin could manage only two hits over the final three innings, falling 3-1.

Mike Cooperider was the tough luck loser on the hill, tossing 6 1/3 innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs, but received little offensive backing. Devon Fisk was the lone Dragon with multiple hits, finishing 2 for 3, scoring the only Tiffin run.

The Dragons will have a quick turnaround, hosting the Ohio Dominican Panthers for a pair of games tomorrow afternoon, with first pitch slated for 1:00 pm.
