Alejandro sisters both win titles at TU Open

Tiffin University had multiple placers at the TU Open held in the Heminger Center as the team opened its 2023-24 season.

Leading the way were the Alejandro sisters, Jenavi (109 pounds) and Juliana (101). Both won their respective weight classes with two dominating victories.

Jenavi, the NCAA Division II national runner-up, posted wins over Indiana Tech by fall in 2:38 and Trine via pin in 1:35 for the title.

Juliana, meanwhile, opened with a 8-0 decision over Indiana Tech and then won the 101-pound class with a 10-0 tech fall over Indiana Tech.

Erin Martin (155) finished 2nd in her weight class, winning 12-0 over Indiana Tech and by pin in 1:52 over Adrian. She then fell in the title match to Indiana Tech in 5:56.

Tatiana Bermudez (136) was third overall. She opened with a pin over Alfred State in 32 seconds, then fell to Indiana Tech 11-0. She bounced back to win her final two matches, both by fall. She beat Adrian in 1:39 and Indiana Tech in 53 seconds.

Paige Lenhardt also took third. She opened with a pin in 2:39 over Trine but then got pinned in 45 seconds by Adrian. Lenhardt came back to outpoint Adrian 10-0 and then pinned Adrian in 4:53 for third place.

Also posting wins at the TU Open were Leah Pekar at 109 pounds (10-0 over Adrian) and Trinity Berry at 155 pounds (14-4 over Adrian).
