Volleyball Splits on Day one of Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover

The Tiffin University volleyball team (10-13, 4-7 GMAC) went 1-1 with a 3-1 win over Maryville on the first day of the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover.

Game One:
Tiffin University took care of Maryville in game one 3-1, winning 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, and 25-23.

TU had a great start, building an 8-3 lead early in the set, but Maryville countered with a 3-0 run to bring the score to 8-6. The Dragons kept their momentum and led 15-8 midway through set one. However, the Saints went on an 8-1 run to cut the Dragons' lead to 17-16. Tiffin outscored the Saints 7-3 the rest of the way to take the first set 25-20.

The Dragons went up 4-1 to start the second set, but the Saints went up 9-6. Tiffin went on a 7-3 rally to lead 14-12 midway through the set. Maryville kept the set close until Tiffin went on a 3-0 run to lead 22-18. TU went on to win the second set 25-21.

In the third set, Maryville jumped out to a 10-3 lead. The Dragons rallied back with a 6-1 run to cut the Saints' lead down to 11-9. Maryville went on a 7-1 run to lead 18-10. The Saints would go on to win the set 25-19.

Maryville went on a 7-2 run to start the fourth set. The Dragons slowly chipped away at the Saints' lead and tied the GLVC opponent 20-20 after a 5-1 rally. Tiffin outscored Maryville 5-3 down the stretch to win the final set 25-23.

The Dragons' offense was led by Taylor Peterson with 16 kills, a .400 hitting percentage, one service ace, one dig, and five block assists, and Josie Reinhart tallied 16 kills, with a .344 hitting percentage, three service aces, and nine digs.

Clare Kwiatkowski led the team with 39 assists, one kill, four digs, and two block assists, and teammate Diana Heitkamp led the team with 16 digs, one assist, and one service ace.

Game Two:
The Dragons went up 7-6 early in the set. The two teams were within one point of each other until Saginaw went on a 3-0 run to lead 16-12. However, Tiffin responded with a 4-0 run to cut the Cardinals' lead to 22-21. Saginaw outscored Tiffin 4-2 to win the first set 26-24.

The Cardinals took an early 3-0 lead over Tiffin and went on to lead by an 18-10 score. Tiffin had a late 6-2 run, but Saginaw Valley won set two 25-17.

The Dragons fought hard at the start of set three, going up 6-4. The Cardinals countered with a 3-0 run to lead 7-6. Tiffin responded with a 5-2 run to lead 14-12 midway through the set, but the Cardinals clawed back to tie the game at 20-20. The Dragons went on a 4-1 run to lead 23-21, and Saginaw Valley outscored TU 5-1 to win the final set 26-24.

Taylor Peterson led the Dragons in the second game with 12 kills, a .360 hitting percentage, one assist, eight digs, one block assist, and one solo block, and Josie Reinhart registered 10 kills with a .269 hitting percentage and four digs.

Clare Kwiatkowski tallied 36 assists, with four digs, and one block assist and teammate Kenedi Goon had eight kills, with a .043 hitting percentage, five digs, and three block assists.
