Dragons fall twice at Kentucky Wesleyan tourney

Tiffin University (3-3) dropped two tough matches on day one of the Kentucky Wesleyan tourney, falling to Maryville 3-1 and Harding 3-0.

The Dragons put up the toughest fight of the day against Maryville, taking the first set 25-23 before dropping three in a row 25-19, 25-10, 25-22.

The Dragons opened up a 20-13 lead and hit .268 in set one en route to taking the early lead. Maryville increased its attack percentage in sets two and three, closing out set two with a 10-4 run and finishing off set three with a similar 13-3 run.

In set four, the Dragons trailed 23-18 late but pulled out three straight points to come to within 23-21. Maryville held off the charge to take the victory.

Overall Maryville hit .236 on the day while the Dragons hit .136.

Wakaya Wilson led the team with 11 kills and 11 digs, while Kenedi Goon had 10 kills.

Taylor Peterson also had 9 kills, Addison Conti dished out 22 assists, and Diana Heitkamp had 20 digs.

Against Harding, the Dragons struggled offensively, posting 20 attack errors against 18 kills (-0.02 attack percentage) as they fell 25-14, 25-13, 25-11.

Wilson led TU with 5 kills while Peterson had 4 kills. Conti also finished with 14 assists.
