Dragons Oust West Liberty 3-1

The Tiffin University volleyball team defeated the West Liberty Hilltoppers 3-1 in non-conference action.

The Dragons improve to 4-8 overall, while the Hilltoppers fall to 9-7 overall.

The Hilltoppers led 4-1 early but the Dragons tied the game at 5-5. West Liberty then went on a monster 8-0 run to lead 13-5. The Dragons responded with a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 13-9. The Hilltoppers outscored the Dragons the rest of the way to claim the first set 25-14.

In the second set, the Dragons' offense awoke, leading 6-3 early in the set. The two teams traded points, tying the game multiple times until the Dragons went on a 4-0 run to lead 18-15. Tiffin ended the second set strong with a 4-0 run and won 25-20.

West Liberty fought back starting the third set up 5-1. However, the Dragons responded with a 5-0 run to take an 11-9 lead. The Dragons held their one-point lead until they went on a 9-2 run to win the third set 25-17.

The fourth set started out close with the game tied 4-4, but Tiffin scored three quick points to lead 7-4, then went on a 7-1 run to lead 14-6. The Dragons outscored the Hilltoppers the rest of the set, claiming match point up 25-11.

As a team, the Dragons tallied 62 kills with a .224 hitting percentage, 105 digs, and six blocks, while the Hilltoppers had 44 kills with a .152 hitting percentage, 86 digs, and 9 blocks.

Wakaya Wilson led the offense for the Dragons with 18 kills, a personal best, with a .200 hitting percentage, 11 digs, and one block assist. Grace Schreiber tallied 11 kills with a .261 hitting percentage, two digs, and one service ace, and teammate Brie Wight recorded 11 kills with a .417 hitting percentage, two block assists, and one dig. 

Loryn Huffman registered a season-high 53 assists, five kills, 15 digs, and one block assist, and teammate Amari Torain led the team with 25 digs, two service aces, and one assist.
