Dragons Keep Rolling, Sweep Walsh

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Tiffin University women's volleyball team kept up their winning ways on Tuesday evening, sweeping aside the Cavaliers of Walsh University 25-22, 25-16, 25-22. The Dragons have now won nine-straight matches, six of which have been 3-0 sweeps, to improve to 11-3 overall and 6-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

In those nine matches, Tiffin has won 27 sets and only dropped four. The Dragons are undefeated in the month of September and at home this season, and have not lost a single set on Old Fort Bank Court. Tiffin remains one of just two unbeaten teams in the G-MAC along with Hillsdale, who the Dragons will face at the end of the month.

In tonight's match, Jenna Huffman was incredible, hitting a blistering .560 with 15 kills and only one error. She also added seven digs and seven total blocks, five of which were solo. Kyley Keene was also big on the back line for the Dragons, recording 16 digs, and Emily Weithman racked up 22 assists to go with 10 digs.

The Dragons started the first set strong, racing out to a 11-5 lead after three-straight Cavalier attack errors. The lead grew to 16-8 on a big kill from Jenna Huffman, but Walsh would fight back with an 8-1 run capped by Amanda Adoranti's second ace of the stretch to cut Tiffin's lead to just one, 17-16. After a Dragon timeout, Tiffin was able to regroup and win the next three points, and eventually take the set 25-22 on a kill from Kyndall Hellyer.

Tiffin began set two just like set one with a big opening run, jumping in front 13-4 in the blink of an eye. Walsh stormed back with a 7-1 run to cut the Dragon lead to three, 14-11, but that was as close as the Cavaliers would come as Tiffin closed the set on an 11-6 run to take it 25-16.

After dropping the third sets in each of their last two contests, the Dragons were ready to go for the sweep from the beginning of set three, taking an early 8-3 lead. However, a Walsh kill and three-straight Dragon errors cut the advantage to 8-7. Tiffin responded with back-to-back-to-back kills from Sydney Gilland, Jenna Huffman, and Kyley Keene to grab the momentum back, and the Dragons would increase their lead to 17-12. A solid team in their own right, Walsh responded again with a 5-1 run to cut the deficit to one. A few points later, the Cavaliers managed to tie the set at 21 on a kill from Lauren Loucks, but Jenna Huffman answered with a kill to take back the lead, and she proceeded to seal the match a couple points later with the set-winning kill to give Tiffin a 25-22 set three win and 3-0 match victory.

The Dragons now take their nine-game winning streak to the road this weekend, as they play at Ohio Dominican at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night before visiting Ohio Valley Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
