Dragons Sweep Yellow Jackets, Run Win Streak to Five

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Tiffin University women's volleyball team used the momentum from a close set one win to sweep Cedarville University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon. With their fifth-straight victory, the Dragons improve to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the GMAC. Cedarville falls to 1-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Kyley Keene led the Dragons in kills on the afternoon with 11 while also notching 12 digs. Freshman Sam Fallis led Tiffin with 13 digs, and Jenna Huffman contributed seven kills, six digs, five blocks, and four service aces to help the Dragons to the win. On the Yellow Jacket side, Taylor Wilkerson had a standout match in the loss, registering 15 kills and 14 digs. Sierra Schuitema also added 29 assists and 16 digs for Cedarville.

Despite a lowly overall record on the year, Cedarville came to play, hanging with the Dragons throughout the first game. Tiffin held a lead of about four for most of the set, but a late 4-0 run by the Yellow Jackets tied the score up at 20. Cedarville would go up 23-22 on a kill from Sara Beste, but after a Tiffin timeout, Cedarville committed back-to-back attack errors to set up game point for the Dragons, 24-23. An attack error by Amanda Curry knotted the score back up at 24, but Tiffin received consecutive kills from Curry and Keene to take the set and a 1-0 advantage.

With momentum on their side from the thrilling set one victory, Tiffin ran away with set two early, jumping out to a 9-6 before notching 11 of the next 14 points to take a 20-9 advantage. Cedarville responded with a modest 6-3 run, but it was far too little, too late as a Keene kill and ace from Jenna Huffman secured the set and put Tiffin up 2-0.

Tiffin kept rolling, as two service aces by Jenna Huffman helped the Dragons out to a 4-2 lead early in set three. With a 12-9 lead a few points later, Tiffin went on an 8-2 run to all but put away the Yellow Jackets, taking a 20-12 set three lead and looking for the sweep. The Dragons were very impressive in the third set, hitting .393 as a team with just two errors and 13 kills, the last of which ended the match as Keene put away her team-high 11th to complete the sweep.

The Dragons will look to extend their win streak to six on Tuesday as they continue the homestand by hosting Malone University at 7:00 p.m.
