Dragons Return to Action With Tiffin Challenge

TIFFIN, Ohio - With nine months having passed since the last collegiate event hosted in the Heminger Center, Tiffin women's track & field returned to action on Friday, hosting the Tiffin University Challenge.

While there were only four teams competing in the meet, it was a slate of regional powerhouses in DII track & field, consisting of Tiffin, Findlay, Ashland, and Hillsdale.

The Dragons had three student-athletes win events, including Marisa Gwinner (high jump, 1.77m), Jazilee Williams (long jump, 5.61m), and Amirah Strauther (60m Hurdles, 9.03 seconds). Gwinner's mark was just .03 meters shy of her school-record jump of 1.80 meters from last year's GMAC Championships.

Strauther looked impressive in her first showing as a Dragon, winning the hurdles by nearly two-tenths of a second.

Williams picked up right where she left off after claiming three titles at the indoor conference championships a year ago, taking first in the long jump with a mark just .01 meters short of her personal best. She also finished third in the 60m Hurdles, racing to a time of 9.22 seconds.

Mercedeez Francis also excelled in the high jump, finishing second behind Gwinner with a height of 1.71 meters, tying the PR she set last season at the Tiffin Dragon Open in January.

Tiffin also earned a pair of fourth-place finishes from Nicole Berry (shot put, 13.70m) and Madison Hayes (pole vault, 3.65m).
