Dragons Forced to Settle for 1-1 Draw with ODU

 

Tiffin (1-4-5, 1-3-3 G-MAC) took a first-half lead against the Panthers but ultimately had to settle for its fifth draw of the season.

Ohio Dominican held a slight advantage in both total shots, 11-7, and in shots on goal, 6-4.

The Dragon defense held strong in the first half, not allowing a single shot on goal through the first 45 minutes. Both teams each fired two shots within the first 15 minutes, but all went quiet as neither team took a shot up to the half hour mark of the match.

Tiffin drew a penalty inside the 18-yard box in the 34th minute which was scored well by Sarah Gundler to gift the Dragons the 1-0 lead. The lead was held through halftime, but the Panthers came out of the half with new life offensively.

ODU fired three shots in goal within 10 minutes of the restart, all of which needed saving by Malea Nelson. Then in the 62nd minute, Nelson would save yet another shot by the rebound was promptly put into the back of the net to level the match.

The Dragons came close to retaking the lead as a shot from Tatum Bradley in the 73rd minute rattled off the woodwork. Two other shots on goal for Tiffin in the second half were saved well by the Panthers goalie as no one was able to break the deadlock.

Gundler tallied her second goal of the season, both of which came from spot kicks. All of Nelson's five saves in net came in the second half.

Tiffin will now head to Ashland, Ohio to take on the Eagles on Wednesday, October 11th at 3:30 p.m.
