First Road Matchup for Tiffin Ends in 1-1 Draw

A total of 25 Dragons saw playing time in their first road matchup of the season as the women's soccer team traveled to South Euclid, Ohio to battle the Falcons of Notre Dame College.

The Falcons nearly doubled the number of total shots taken by Tiffin, however, both teams recorded four shots on goal. Notre Dame heavily outnumbered the Dragons in corner kicks, 9-1.

The match started off end-to-end as Tiffin recorded the first shot of the game, courtesy of Carley Groh in the sixth minute, which was headed for the top-left hand corner if not for the Falcon goalie. Roughly two minutes later, Notre Dame had an opportunity of their own, but Malea Nelson was equal to the shot.

The next shot on goal did not come until the 27th minute as the Falcons put a shot on frame into the lower left-hand corner which Nelson again saved. Four minutes later, Emma Lennig sent a long ball down the right wing looking for Kaelyn Harkness. The opposing goalkeeper rushed out of net in an attempt to get to the ball first, but Harkness won the foot race and nodded the ball past her and into the net.

Just over a minute later, the Falcons equalized off the back of a free kick to the edge of the box which was brought down and curled into the goal.

Notre Dame earned three corner kicks in the second half but only generated one shot on goal. The Dragons pushed for a winner with two shots on target in the final 12 minutes of the match. Both efforts were saved, however, and the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Harkness scored the lone goal for Tiffin on the assist by Lennig, both their firsts of the season. Harkness tallied two shots on goal while Groh and Amanda Feury each had one as well. Nelson saved three of the four shots she faced and spent all 90 minutes in goal.

The Dragons have a three-day break before traveling to face Davenport University at 4 p.m. on Thursday, September 7th.
