Siler Steps Into Big Role for Women's Soccer

After an impressive freshman campaign in 2019, Emma Siler looks to be one of Tiffin women's soccer's leaders heading into this year's spring season.

Her love for the game started at a young age.

"I've been playing soccer ever since I can remember," said Siler. "I have two sisters that also played so it was nice to have that growing up."

At Turpin High School in Cincinnati, Emma was a three-year letterwinner, First Team All-ECC during her junior and senior years, a Second Team Enquirer All-Star, senior captain, and given the coaches' award her senior year. She also ran track during her senior year and helped break the school's 4x100 relay record.

That success at the prep level led to recruitment from the Tiffin staff and ultimately led to Siler making the decision to be a Dragon. She is still very glad that she made that choice, both for athletics and academics.

"Being here at Tiffin has really benefitted me," said Siler. "I really like the smaller class sizes because you are able to get one-on-one with your professors and they know you on a first-name basis."

On the field, the Dragons did not quite have the 2019 season that Siler was hoping for, but she is optimistic and hopeful for the future of the team going forward.

"Last year, the team definitely had its struggles," said Siler. "This year, though, the team has been really motivated and willing to get better and try to perfect our game."

During that first year in a Dragon uniform, Siler appeared in all 17 games for Tiffin, starting 16. She was third on the team with five points, recording two goals and an assist.

She has also looked very impressive in fall training to TU's new head coach, Dean Joseph.

"Emma is going to have a huge impact this year," said Joseph. "She is a wonderful player who is going to improve even more. She has such a good understanding with the other strikers who all make each other better."

Siler also reciprocates that positive feeling towards her new coach and is excited for where he can lead the team.

"We got a new coach this year, and I think it's been really good for the team," said Siler. "He's brought a positive vibe to the team and we are feeding off of that. I've seen each and every one of us improve already, and I'm really excited to see how our spring season goes."

Despite her underclassman status, Siler will go into the season as one of the team's leaders on the offensive half of the field, and Joseph is thrilled with the influence that she will have on the team.

"She is a great person and such an amazing teammate," said Joseph. "Her ability to interact with people is special. Her value off the field is the same as on the field."

With Siler at the forefront, the future of Tiffin women's soccer is sure to be bright.
