Dragons Struck by Arrows 2-1

The Tiffin University women's soccer team fought hard on Saturday afternoon, but a late Ursuline goal proved to be the fatal strike, as TU fell 2-1.

Ursuline sent a barrage of shots on goal early in the 1st half, but TU goalkeeper Jennifer Sandberg held the Arrows off the scoreboard. Sandberg allowed one goal in the half, as the Arrows punched a ball past a diving Sandberg to take a 1-0 lead at the 34:23 mark. The Dragons' offense scuffled throughout the half, producing only three shots on goal compared to Ursuline's 12.

The majority of the 2nd half was played in the middle of the field, with neither side able to make a sustainable push to the net. However, late in the 2nd half, TU's sense of urgency escalated, and resulted in a game tying goal by Sierra Besecker with the assist going to Leanne Tobin. With the score now tied at 1-1, it looked as if momentum had swung the way of the Dragons, but three minutes later the Arrows delivered the knockout blow. With 5:31 remaining, the Arrows found the back of the net with a laser from outside the box to take a 2-1 lead. Tiffin continued to make an offensive push, but were turned away by the Arrows' defense.

Ursuline held a commanding 21-5 lead in shots for the game, and a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.Samantha Ortenzi took the loss in goal, entering the game at the beginning of the 2nd half. Ortenzi recorded three saves, while Sandberg reeled in six. Sierra Besecker was the lone goal scorer for Tiffin, taking a pass from Leanne Tobin for the only TU goal.

The Dragons will hit the road for their next two games, seeing action on September 6 against Lewis University at 3:30 pm.
