Dragons open season at Southeast Open

Tiffin University opened its 2022-23 men's wrestling season at the Southeast Open in Roanoke, Virginia.

Tiffin competed in both the Open division and the Freshmen/Sophomore division. Picking up wins in the Open division was Dylan Mansor at 149 pounds with a 2-0 win over Franklin and Mary. He also fell to Virginia in 3:39 and lost to West Virginia 12-2.

Matt Zuckerman also got a sudden victory win over Gardner-Webb 8-2 while falling to West Virginia 4-2 and Virginia in 1:41.

Also getting an Open win was Sam LoFaso III over Columbia 6-5. He also fell to Virginia Tech 18-2 and North Carolina 18-2.

Branden Mendoza lost to Virginia 3-2 before forfeiting to Franklin and Mary.

In the Freshmen/Sophomore division, three Dragons got multiple victories. Clayton Ours (285) got an 8-5 win over Roanoke and a 10-5 win over Franklin and Mary, while Justin Van Vaerenbergh (157) got a close win over West Virginia 7-6 and a forfeit win over teammate Casey Barnett. Jakob Hurley (165) also got wins via fall over Citadel (:43) and Roanoke (1:09).

Also getting wins were Anthony Aniciete (125) 10-2 over Davidson; Mason Amadio (133) 8-3 over teammate Frank Depinet; Jack Collins (133) 7-5 over VMI; Gavin Owens (141) 9-7 over Roanoke; Nolan Gessler (149) 11-0; Casey Barnett (157) by fall over Davidson in 1:21; Dean Hetrick (184) 6-3 over Bluefield State; Iran Love (184) 9-4 over North Carolina; and Jake Noon (285) 5-3 over Appalachian State.
