Tiffin University's wrestling team had a strong day at the Ohio Northern Invitational, defeating 10 other teams to win the event.
Tiffin had 10 placers over seven weight classes, as it defeated Ohio Northern 151-140. Campbellsville was third with 136.5.
Richard Screptock was the lone champion for TU, winning at 165 pounds. Screptock posted a 18-0 win over Alma and a 7-1 win over ONU before winning the title after a medical forfeit by teammate Zachary Bierfeldt, who took second. Bierfeldt had a close 9-8 win against Olivet, a 16-6 win over Trine, and a pin in just 21 seconds against Alma before forfeiting the title match.
Collin Adkins also took second at 141 pounds, posting a 12-3 win over Adrian, flattening ONU in 5:46, and beating Olivet 12-2 before losing via pin in the title match against Alma in 2:45.
Hayden Bronne was second at 184, posting three dominant wins by pin over Mount St. Joseph (42 seconds), ONU (2:47), and Heidelberg (1:32). He lost in the championship 9-4 to Campbellsville.
Chase Carter also finished 2nd for TU at 285 pounds. He eked out a 2-1 win over Alma, pinned Heidelberg in 1:03, and had two more close decisions over ONU (3-1) and Washington & Lee (6-4) before getting pinned by ONU in the title match in 4:33.
TU had three third place finishers. Rico Puente (133 pounds) opened with two pins, beating Washington & Lee in 45 seconds and Adrian in 1:18. He had a close 5-3 loss to Otterbein, but bounced back with a 12-1 win over Washington & Lee and a medical forfeit win over teammate Giuseppe Penzone.
Beau Minnick (157) also was third, opening with a 19-2 win against Olivet. He lost a razor thin 2-1 decision to ONU but then ripped off five straight wins - two by forfeit, 23-8 over ONU, 7-3 over Heidelberg, and 6-2 over Campbellsville.
Chase Boyd was also third, posting a 34 second pin over Adrian and a 8:00 pin over Olivet before shutting out Trine 17-0. After a close 3-0 loss to Washington & Lee, he finished with another shutout 7-0 over Heidelberg and took third with a pin in 1:02 over ONU.
Penzone finished fourth, only losing two matches by a point and a medical forfeit. He had wins over Otterbein 9-4, Adrian 9-3, and Adrian 8-7. His lone loss on the mat was 5-4 to Campbellsville.
Caleb Fry placed 5th at 285 pounds. He opened with a pin in 1:17 over Heidelberg but then fell via pin in 1:49 to Otterbein. Fry rebounded with two pins (1:37 over Heidelberg and 39 seconds over Campbellsville). He then lost 6-5 to Washington & Lee but took fifth with a medical forfeit win.
David Henson (285) also had two wins (4-1 over Olivet, 3-0 over Campbellsville).
