Dragons grab 10-9 victory over Thomas More

Tiffin University (1-2) grabbed its first win of the 2023 season, holding off Thomas More 10-9 in its home opener.

The battle between the two teams was a narrow one for all 60 minutes. TMU opened scoring with two goals but TU answered immediately with unassisted goals by Hannah Kaplan and Gabby Wilson.

The Saints scored twice more to take a 4-2 lead. After the Saints took a 5-3 lead, the Dragons made their move, scoring four unanswered goals to close out the first half and take a 7-5 lead into halftime.

Tacking on goals before the break were Lillian Graham and Wilson on unassisted shots, while Gabrielle Beals and Gabrielle Entingh scored on free-position shots.

Thomas More continued the chase, pulling to within one goal throughout the third and fourth quarters. They got the ball back down 10-9 with 30 seconds left but could not get off a final shot as TU picked up its first win of the year.

Jenay Rennie came up big in goal, making 13 saves to preserve the TU lead.

Tiffin outshot the Saints 37-28 and held a 21-16 ground ball edge. They also won the draw control battle 14-9.

Beals finished with 3 goals, 8 draw controls, and 3 caused turnovers. Wilson had 2 goals, 5 draws, 4 ground balls, and 3 caused turnovers, while Graham also had 2 goals with 4 ground balls. 

Rennie added 7 ground balls, while Entingh, Kaplan, and Caylin Kunze also scored.
