Dragons' comeback falls just short 10-9 vs Charleston

Tiffin University (0-6) battled back from four goals down in the second half but came up short, falling to Charleston 10-9.

The game was close from the outset, with Tiffin holding a 3-2 lead after one quarter. Tiffin got its first goal when Angela Lulejian scored off a pass from Rylee Sutherland to tie the score 1-1 at the 3:41 mark. 

Trailing 2-1, TU got two more goals from Gabby Wilson and Daniela Carey, both assisted by Sutherland, to take a 3-2 lead.

TU maintained the lead early in the second quarter when Jenny Bates scored an unassisted goal to make it 4-3. The lead then went back and forth, with Lulejian getting another goal on a dish from Carey to tie the score 5-5. Two late goals by Charleston gave them a 7-5 halftime lead.

Two quick goals in the third quarter pushed UC's lead to 9-5. Sutherland then scored at the 7:29 mark to make it 9-6.

With Charleston leading 10-6 late in the third, TU made its final attack. With the Eagles trying to run the clock down, the Dragons slowly crept back in the game, getting another goal from Bates off a Sutherland pass to make it 10-7.

In the fourth, Sutherland scored again, this time from Bates, while Carey also added a free position goal with 3:02 left to make the score 10-9.

A late turnover caused by Tonesty Burt gave TU the ball with 40 seconds left. After a TU timeout, TU was fouled, giving Sutherland a free position shot with 29 seconds left, but Georgia Ryan made the save to preserve the lead.

Overall TU was outshot 27-18, including 24-13 through three periods. TU won the ground ball battle 25-22, as both teams combined for 51 turnovers on the rainy, windy day.

Sutherland had a busy day for TU, scoring twice with 4 assists. Carey and Bates had 2 goals and an assist apiece, while Carey also had 5 ground balls and 4 draws. Lulejian had two goals, while Wilson also had a goal. Burt added 3 caused turnovers.
