Fonga, Auslands win tournament titles

Two Tiffin University men's tennis players won their respective divisions at separate tournaments over the weekend.

Ruben Fonga won the ITA Midwest Region Championship in Allendale, Michigan, while Janis Auslands also won the B draw at the Fairmont State Hidden Duals tourney.

Fonga defeated Indianapolis in both the semifinals and the finals for the title. He opened the day with a 6-0, 6-3 win and then won the title by a 6-2, 6-4 score.

Auslands won three matches to take the title. He had an opening win by a score of 6-3, 7-6, a semifinal win 6-4 (ret.), and a 6-3, 6-4 score in the title match.

Martin Driesner also finished second in the C division, winning 6-1, 3-2 (ret.), 6-0, 6-2 in the semis, and then falling in the final 7-6, 6-2.

Also picking up wins were Cyrille Colomb 3-4 (0-7), 4-3 (7-5), 1-0 (12-10); Matt Saunders 6-1, 3-6, 13-11; Daniel Martinez Roca 3-6, 7-5, 10-8; and Ghali Ouajahat Filali 4-2, 4-1.

In doubles play, Driesner/Colomb won 6-4 while also losing 7-5, Timothy Richardson/Saunders split with a 6-4 win and 6-1 loss, and Maxime Navrotchi/Filali won 6-2 while also falling 6-4.
