Dragons excel on day one of ITA Midwest Championships

Three Tiffin University men's tennis players reached the round of 16 at the ITA Midwest Championships in Allendale, Michigan.

Michael Gurtner Matthew Telford, and Ruben Fonga both were unbeaten after the first two rounds of the tourney.

Fonga posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Maryville and then won his second-round match against Indianapolis 7-5, 6-2.

Gurtner also got two wins, downing Rockhurst 6-4, 6-4 and Illinois-Springfield 6-4, 6-3.

Telford posted a win over Hillsdale 6-4, 6-1, then upset the 4th-seet from Drury in a tough three-set battle 6-1, 1-6, 10-8.

Matthew Weaver fell in his two singles matches. He lost to Indianapolis 7-5, 6-3 and to Maryville in a three-set match 2-6, ,6-4, 10-5.
