Fonga named Player of Year, All G-MAC team announced

Ruben Fonga was named G-MAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year, as the conference announced its annual All-G-MAC selections.

Fonga took the top honor for Tiffin University, which won the regular season title and will be the top seed entering the G-MAC Championships. Teammate Michael Gurtner was also a First Team selection, while Matthew Weaver and Matthew Telford were Second Team picks. Head Coach Phil Conley was also named Coach of the Year.

Fonga, who has been ranked as high as 2nd in the nation in the ITA singles rankings, posted an 18-1 singles record along with a 12-4 doubles mark this season. This marks his second First Team All G-MAC honor.

Gurtner is now a three-time All G-MAC pick, twice as a First Team selection. He has a 7-5 singles mark along with an 11-3 doubles record.

This also marks Telford's second All-Conference honor. He sports a 9-5 singles mark and a 12-3 doubles record.

This is also Weaver's first All-Conference honor, as he teams with Fonga for a 12-4 doubles mark along with an impressive 9-4 singles record.

This marks Conley's ninth Coach of the Year honor in conference - 6 times with the women's program, 3 times with the men. He has previously been named 2022 ITA Midwest Region Coach of the Year as well as 2021 Women's GMAC Coach of the Year, 2019 Men's GMAC Coach of the Year, 2017 Men's and Women's GLIAC Coach of the Year as well as Wilson/ITA Women's Coach of the Year, and 2013 Women's GLIAC Coach of the Year.
