Tiffin University (5-1) came up big in a close 4-3 win over Augusta as the Dragons started their spring trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

TU then picked up a 5-2 win against Wartburg as the team enjoyed split-squad action.

Against Augusta, Tiffin picked up the doubles point with wins in two of the three matches. Michael Gurtner/Matthew Telford won a tight one 7-6 (9-7), while Gabriel de Oliveira/Cyrille Colomb won another nailbiter 7-6 (7-5). Ruben Fonga/Matthew Weaver fell 6-4.

In singles play, the Dragons picked up three close wins. Fonga won 6-4, 6-3, while Telford won in three 4-6, 6-2, 1-0. Weaver got the deciding point 6-3, 7-5.

Against Wartburg, the Dragons had to come back down 1-0 after falling in two of the three doubles matches. The lone winner was Mattia Colli/Timothy Richardson, who won 6-3. Gabriel de Oliveira/Matt Saunders fell 6-4, and Daniel Martinez Roca/Benjamin Szarek lost 7-5.

TU got five singles victories. Saunders won 6-3, 6-0, Martinez Roca prevailed 6-2, 6-1, de Oliveira posted a 6-4, 6-0 victory, Colli posted a 6-1, 6-0 win, and Richardson won a close one 6-3, 7-6.
