Dragons Score Close Win Over Ashland

LEXINGTON, Ohio - Tiffin men's tennis earned a tight come-from-behind 4-3 win over Ashland on Saturday afternoon at the Lakewood Racquet Club.

Nikita Parfenov and Michael Gurtner battled to a thrilling 7-6 win in No. 1 doubles, but the Eagles took the other two pairings to earn the first point of the afternoon.

After their doubles victory, Parfenov and Gurtner were not able to pull out wins in singles, leaving Ashland with the opportunity to take the match with one more win.

The Dragons would not let it happen, however, with Matthew Telford (6-3, 6-2), Hugo Chatras (6-1, 6-3), Gabriel de Oliveira (6-4, 6-2) all earning wins to even things up at three points apiece.

In the final and deciding singles match, Tom Blaquiere was the hero for the Dragons after dropping the first set 6-4 but recovering to take the second frame 7-6 and the third 6-4 to win the match for Tiffin.

TU improves to 3-5 on the season and will look to go for their second-straight win against Ferris State on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
