Men's Tennis Picked In Tie Atop GMAC Poll

INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference released the 2020 Men's Tennis Preseason Coaches Poll on Wednesday afternoon, with Tiffin men's tennis earning a share of first place in the vote.

The Dragons received 22 points and three first-place votes, the same number of points as Findlay but one more first-place nod than the Oilers. Hillsdale came in third with 19 points and one first-place vote, followed by Walsh (13 pts), Cedarville (9 pts), and Kentucky Wesleyan (5 pts).

Tiffin is coming off a 2019 campaign that saw them win both the GMAC regular-season and tournament championships in their inaugural season as a member of the conference. The Dragons went a perfect 6-0 against GMAC competition during the season and followed that up with a pair of 4-2 victories over Walsh in the semifinal and Findlay in the final to claim the tournament title.

Head Coach Phil Conley was named the GMAC Coach of the Year for his efforts, with six members also earning all-conference nods.

Two of those all-conference honorees are back this season in juniors Nikita Parfenov (First Team) and Hugo Chatras (Second Team).

The men are currently also ranked 10th in the Midwest Region by the ITA.

Conference play begins on March 28 with a road match at Findlay, with the GMAC Championship scheduled to take place on April 24-25.
