TU in second place after first day of swim championships

Tiffin University had two individual champions after the first day of the GMAC/MEC Swim and Dive Championships.

The Dragons finished the day in second place behind Findlay. The Oilers had 343 points while TU was next with 253 and Malone third with 206.

Christoph Hohenfeld was first in the 1000 freestyle in a school record time of 9:33.56, while Nick DeRobles was third in 9:42.91. Nathan Marr also came in 8th in the 1000 in 10:10.95.

Miguel Garcia also won a title in the 200 IM with a B cut time of 1:50.44. Tiffin also had three other swimmers in the top 10 of the 200 IM, with Jonah Sumfleth taking second in 1:50.49, just 5/100 of a second behind Garcia and also a B cut. Yun Hung Tan was 6th overall in 1:54.98, while Aubin Dulin was 10th in 1:57.13.

The 200 medley relay team of Garcia, Tan, Hohenfeld, and Dulin also took second with a time of 1:34.07.

Day two of competition will be Feb. 13 at 10 am.
