Johan Widal recorded a five-under-par (67) in the opening round of the Midwest Regional in St. Albans, Missouri to put himself and the Dragons in first place overall.

Just seven strokes separate the top five teams as Tiffin (292) leads the way after day one. The Dragons sit just one stroke ahead of Ferris State (293) who are a single stroke ahead of third place McKendree (294).

Widal continues his good form as of late after finishing in a tie for second place at the Dragons' home tournament, the Kyle Ryman Memorial Invite.

Following Widal was sophomore Mitchell Brassard (71) who shot a one-under-par, placing in a tie for sixth. Both Justin Hand and Ryan Norkin scored 77 on the opening day, good for a tie for 31st position. They were followed closely by Matt Flynn who was just one stroke behind with a 78 and in a tie for 45th place.

The Dragons look to make it back-to-back tournament team victories when the tournament continues tomorrow, October 10th.
