Men’s Basketball Team Breaks Three-Point Record in Win Over Salem

The Tiffin University men's basketball team broke the three-point record made as a team tonight with 20 in the 105-93 win over the Salem Tigers.

The Dragons improve to 7-11 overall, while the Tigers fall to 12-5 overall.

A fast-paced game between both teams saw Tiffin run 17-8 through the first five minutes of play, but the Tigers were able to string together a 14-7 run to cut the lead down to 24-19 for Tiffin at the 12:36 mark. Tiffin countered, outscoring the Tigers 13-8 to lead by ten at 37-27, the largest lead of the game with 9:04 left in the first half.

With Salem down by double-digits the Dragons looked to have a solid lead going into halftime but the Tigers went on a 7-0 run over a two-minute period to cut the Dragons lead to two at 42-40 with 3:21 left in the half. After a media timeout Tiffin surged, outscoring the visitors 18-3 the rest of the half to lead 60-45 at the half. Tiffin made 13 of their eventual 20 three pointers in the first half.

The Dragons came out confident in the second half and were able to extend their lead to 22 points through the first eight minutes of play at 84-62. A three pointer made by Devaughn Munson was the 19th of the game, breaking the single-game record of most three pointers made by Tiffin in a single game. Salem went on a 5-0 run over the next three minutes to put them at 84-69, but the Dragons kept making key buckets to hold a double-digit lead the rest of the game. With six minutes left in the game the Tigers started to foul to save time and come back in the game but Morgan Taylor went 7-for-9 from the stripe to put away the game and seal the 105-93 win over Salem.

As a team the Dragons had one of the best statistical performances of the season, shooting 34-for-60 from the field and 20-for-36 from beyond the arc, while the Tigers shot a respectable 33-for-71 from the field and 11-for-33 from three-point range. Tiffin had 22 fast break points compared to Salem's eight, only had eight turnovers compared to ten for the visitors, and led for a total of 38 minutes and 28 seconds through the 40-minute game. 

Tylin Lockett-Fuller led the team, scoring 24 points shooting 7-for-10 from the field and 6-for-9 from beyond the arc, five rebounds, four assists, and two steals, Trent Williams scored 21 points shooting 8-for-14 from the field and 5-for-8 from three-point territory, and Tanner Johnson tallied 14 points shooting 5-for-8 from the field and 4-for-7 from three-point range, and five rebounds.

Wesley Jordan scored 13 points shooting 5-for-7 from the field, grabbed six rebounds, a career-best six assists, and one block and teammate Morgan Taylor had 11 points shooting 2-for-5 from the field, and 7-for-9 from the free throw line, a team-high seven assists, and one rebound.
