Men's Basketball Opens 2021-22 Season at GMAC/GLVC Challenge

The Tiffin University men's basketball team will battle Maryville to open the 2021 season on Saturday, Nov. 13 with an 9 p.m. tip-off. Then, the Dragons come up against Missouri-St. Louis on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.

Dragon Details:

Trent Williams, a sophomore guard, led the team over 19 games with a 13.9 points average. He also led the team in assists with 4.3 per game. He led the team in field goals made with 97 and was second in three-pointers made. He has scored 558 points over his first two seasons. He also was fourth in the GMAC in assist/turnover ratio, while placing 11th in the conference in scoring. 

Other top returners include Tanner Johnson (10.8 points, team-best 60 three-pointers with 39.5 percent), Wesley Jordan (11.2 points, led the team in rebounding and was second in points), and Thomas Hickman (9.3 points, second on the team in assists and second in free throws made). 

In addition to last year's returners, the Dragons have added some experience to the incoming class that includes four upperclassmen transfers: Ian Lopez, Morgan Taylor, Luke Johnson, and Tylin Lockett-Fuller

The incoming freshmen include Jalen Brown, Marcus Stewart, Andre Irvin, Sihr Sumner, Elhadji Thiam, and Cameron Rogers

 

Scouting the Saints:

Maryville was 8-12 last season in the GLVC, missing out on the GLVC Conference tournament.

The Saints' offense is led by Daniel Farris who averages 12.8 points shooting 42.2 percent from the field and 30.2 percent from downtown, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.3 steals, Ari Jackson at 10.5 points shooting 43.3 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range, and 2.1 rebounds, and Davis Walker with 6.1 points shooting 37.1 percent from the field, 2.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists, and 0.85 steals per game. 

The Saints lead the all-time series against the Dragons 3-0, with their last meeting coming on November 10, 2019, when Maryville won 83-76.

 

Scouting the Tritons:

The Tritons went 13-6 last season, making it to the semifinals of the GLVC Conference tournament. 

Missouri-St. Louis is led by Marty Jackson who averaged 12.9 points shooting 54.1 percent from the field, 4.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 blocks, Shane Wissink recorded 11.7 points, shooting 45 percent from the field, and 38.3 percent from beyond the arc, 2.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 0.8 steals, and Steve Webb tallied 7.6 points, shooting 50.9 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from three-point range, 5.2 rebounds per game, 4.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game last season. 

The Tritons lead the all-time series against the Dragons 2-0, with their last meeting coming on November 9, 2019, when Missouri-St. Louis won 80-67.
