Men’s Basketball Edged by No. 11 Hillsdale in 85-83 Nail Biter

The Tiffin University men's basketball team dropped an 85-83 game to No. 11 Hillsdale.

In a close game, the Dragons shot better from beyond the arc shooting 39.1 percent compared to 30.8 for the Chargers. However, the Chargers shots 61.8 percent from the field compared to the Dragons' 53.3 percent.

The Chargers improve to 18-1 overall and 18-1 in the conference, while the Dragons dropped to 5-14 overall and 5-14 in the conference.

The Dragons jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but the Chargers countered with an 8-4 run to come within one at 11-10. Tiffin went up by four at 19-15 but then Hillsdale went on an 11-0 run to lead 26-19. The Dragons outscored Hillsdale 12-9 to end the first half down 35-31. 

The Dragons started the second half with a 9-2 run to lead 42-37. The two teams traded points as Tiffin kept a lead until the Chargers strung together a 7-0 run to lead 56-55. It was a one-possession game the rest of the way with neither team allowing the other to gain a significant lead until the Dragons went on a 5-0 run to lead 79-75 with 2:40 left in the game. The Chargers outscored Tiffin down the stretch 8-4 to win 85-83. 

Trent Williams led Tiffin scoring 30 points shooting 11-for-18, had one assist, and two steals, Braxton Foreman tallied 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, and one assist, and Tanner Johnson scored 12 points shooting 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, two assists, and two steals. Williams had a career-high in points scoring 30 points, breaking his previous career-high of 24 against Cedarville on Feb. 6, 2021.
