Men’s Basketball Set to Face Malone, Trevecca Nazarene

The Tiffin University men's basketball team went 2-0 last week with wins against Trevecca Nazarene and Cedarville. This week, the Dragons will host two games, first on Tuesday against Malone at 5:30 p.m., then on Saturday in a rematch with Trevecca Nazarene at 3 p.m.

Scouting the Dragons

The Dragons went 2-0 last week with wins over Trevecca Nazarene and Cedarville. The last time out the Dragons defeated the Yellow Jackets 77-62. 

The Dragons shot 40 percent from beyond the arc and tallied 11 steals compared to the Yellow Jackets who shot 20 percent from beyond the arc and recorded two steals.

Tiffin is ranked first in the conference in field goals made per game averaging 10.3 field goals per game. The Dragons are third in the conference in turnover margin averaging 3.77 less turnovers than their opponent.

Tiffin has four players in double figures: Jaeden KingWesley JordanTanner Johnson, and Trent Williams.  King leads the team, scoring 15.1 points shooting 38.5 percent from the field, with 3.0 rebounds, and 1.5 assists, followed by Jordan who averages 12.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.3 steals. Johnson averages 11.7 points shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists, and Williams averages 11.2 points shooting 37.8 percent from the field, 3.2 rebounds, and 4.6 assists.

 

Scouting the Pioneers

The Pioneers went 2-0 last week with a win over Cedarville and Walsh. Malone is third in the conference in scoring averaging 70.4 points. 

Malone is led by four scorers. Bo Myers leads the group averaging 18.8 points shooting 52.8 percent from the field, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.0 steal followed by Bryce Butler averaging 16.9 points shooting 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.8 assists. Marcus Ernst scores 14.8 points shooting 61 percent from the field, 8.9 rebounds, and 2.8 assists and teammate Jaret Majestic averages 10.2 points shooting 39.1 percent from beyond the arc, 2.2 rebounds per game, 1.2 assists, and 1.4 steals.

The Pioneers lead in the all-time series against the Dragons 58-24 with their last meeting coming Dec. 16, 2019 when Walsh won 99-94. 

 

Scouting the Trojans

Trevecca went 1-2 last week with a win over Ohio Dominican. Trevecca ranks fourth in the conference in defense holding opponents to 67.7 points. 

Trevecca's offense is led by Brendan Newton scoring 11.8 points shooting 57.7 percent from the field, 7.4 rebounds,1.7 blocks, and 1.5 assists. Chris Rogers is averaging 10.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists and teammate Adam Webb averages 10.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.4 blocks. 

The Dragons lead the all-time series against the Trojans 3-2, with their last meeting coming last week when the Dragons won 70-61.
